Echo Harp

Echo Harp is a harp you can play right in your browser. Click or tap once to start the sound, then sweep a finger or your mouse across eleven glowing strings; every string is tuned to the same five-note scale, so free play never sounds wrong. Then switch to Echo mode: the harp plays a short tune and you play it back, one more note each round. Free, no sign-up.

How to use

  1. Click or tap the harp once so your browser lets it make sound, then tap or sweep the strings. Long strings on the left are low, short strings on the right are high.
  2. Pick a mode from the top-right corner: Play, Echo or Daily.
  3. In Echo and Daily, listen to the tune, then play the same strings in the same order. Each round adds one note.
  4. In Play mode, pluck four to sixteen notes in a row to turn them into a link you can send to a friend.

FAQ

Why can't I hear anything on my iPhone?

Tap the harp once to wake the sound. On older iPhones the silent switch also mutes web audio, so flip it off and turn the volume up.

Is it a real harp sound?

It's a physical model of a plucked string rather than a recording; sweep faster and it gets brighter and louder. It sits somewhere between a harp, a lyre and a guitar.

Do I need to sign up or download anything?

No. It runs in the browser on phones, tablets and computers. Your best score stays in your own browser.

How long is the daily tune?

Sixteen notes. You start by echoing the first three, and each round adds the next note.

Can I play two strings at once?

Yes. On a touch screen each finger is tracked on its own, so you can sweep with two hands.
